Google has unveiled a series of cutting-edge updates to its advertising tools, placing artificial intelligence at the forefront of its strategy. Announced during the second day of the 2026 I/O conference, these enhancements aim to improve brand visibility, streamline campaign management, and optimize the ad experience for marketers and users alike.

New Insights on Brands in AI-Driven Results

Among the key updates is a tool offering greater transparency into how brands appear in AI-generated answers. Google introduced the AI performance insights tool within Merchant Center, which provides detailed data on brand performance in AI-powered results.

As explained by Google, "The new AI performance insights tool in Merchant Center gives you a clear view into how your brand is performing on AI surfaces by comparing your share of voice against similar brands."

Marketers will gain access to specifics about the products customers are exploring through AI tools, along with the questions they are asking, enabling better optimization of product listings for AI discovery. These insights will be rolled out in the coming months to marketers in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the U.S.

Integration of Data Tools for Better Decision-Making

Google also announced the integration of its open-source marketing mix modeling tool, Meridian, into Google Analytics 360. Meridian provides expanded estimation data that external developers can use to refine measurement strategies.

This integration aims to centralize key data insights, empowering marketers to make more informed decisions. Additionally, predictive scenarios can now be implemented to guide investment strategies.

Another significant innovation is the introduction of Ask Advisor, a feature that combines data from Google Ads, Analytics, and the Google Marketing Platform. According to Google, "Ask Advisor orchestrates a team of expert agents across Google products, serving as your always-on collaborator and problem solver throughout your campaign journey. For example, you can say ‘find new customers for my hair care products,’ and Ask Advisor will automatically pull product details from Merchant Center to set up your new campaign in Google Ads - taking you from idea to launch in just a few clicks."

Enhanced Ad Types for AI Environments

Two experimental ad formats are being tested to integrate directly within AI-generated responses. Conversational Discovery ads will offer sponsored results for specific queries, while Highlighted Answers will embed relevant ads within the primary overview of an AI response. Additionally, AI-powered Shopping ads will now deliver tailored product promotions alongside generated explanations based on user queries.

Google is also expanding its Direct Offers feature, allowing bundled brand deals to be presented in AI-driven queries. Furthermore, its Gemini-powered Business Agent for Leads will provide interactive AI agents within advertisements to assist customers.

Advancements in YouTube Advertising

In a move to enhance campaigns across platforms, Google introduced new Demand Gen features for YouTube promotions. Through Multimodal video creation in Asset Studio, advertisers can quickly develop high-impact video ads with minimal prompts. Moreover, authentic creator partnership videos can now be integrated seamlessly into campaigns during setup.

"With just a few prompts, build more relevant and performant YouTube ads with Multimodal video creation in Asset Studio. Plus, advertisers can easily boost authentic creator partnership videos directly within the asset picker during Demand Gen campaign setup", Google stated.
