Google Ads Budget & Cost Calculator
Pick your industry, enter how many leads you want, and see the monthly budget, daily budget, cost per click, and cost per lead you should plan for, based on real 2026 Google Ads benchmarks.
How much should you spend on Google Ads? The honest answer depends on your industry, your market, and how many leads you need. This calculator gives you a starting point using median benchmarks from 13,474 US search campaigns. Across all industries, the typical cost per click is $5.42 and the typical cost per lead is $66.69.
01How This Calculator Works
The calculator starts with the median cost per lead for your industry. It multiplies that by the number of leads you want to get your monthly ad budget. Then it divides that budget by your industry's median cost per click to estimate how many clicks you will pay for.
- Monthly budget. Leads you want multiplied by your industry's typical cost per lead.
- Daily budget. Monthly budget divided by 30.4, the number Google uses for an average month. Google says your monthly spend will not go over your daily budget multiplied by 30.4, even though some days can spend up to twice your daily budget.
- Your own numbers. If you already run Google Ads, open "Use your own numbers" and enter your real cost per click and conversion rate. Your cost per lead becomes your cost per click divided by your conversion rate.
- Customer value. Add your average job or case value and how many leads turn into customers. The calculator shows your break-even cost per lead and your estimated return on ad spend.
02Where the Benchmark Data Comes From
The industry numbers come from the WordStream by LocaliQ Google Ads Benchmarks 2026 report. It covers 13,474 US search campaigns running from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, across 23 industries. The report labels its figures as averages, but they are median figures, which keeps a few very large or very small accounts from skewing the results.
A few industries that matter for local businesses:
- Attorneys and legal services: $9.87 cost per click and $131.63 cost per lead, the highest of all 23 industries.
- Home and home improvement: $8.33 cost per click and $90.92 cost per lead.
- Dentists and dental services: $8.00 cost per click and $72.97 cost per lead.
- Physicians and surgeons: $4.76 cost per click and $40.04 cost per lead.
For home service trades, the calculator also shows Local Services Ads cost per lead by trade from SearchLight Digital, based on 888 home services contractors in February 2026. The blended average was $53 per lead.
03Why Your Real Numbers Will Be Different
Benchmarks are a starting point, not a promise. A personal injury firm in a major city will pay far more per click than a plumber in a small town. These are the biggest factors that move your real cost per lead:
- Your market. More competitors bidding in your area means higher costs per click.
- Your keywords and match types. Broad keywords without negative keywords waste budget on searches that will never call you.
- Your landing page. A fast page with a clear call to action raises your conversion rate, and every bump in conversion rate lowers your cost per lead.
- Your tracking. If calls and form fills are not tracked as conversions, Google cannot optimize toward them.
