The deadline for the Meta automotive Comscore migration has passed. Since June 22, 2026, Meta no longer supports Nielsen DMA targeting for automotive model ads, and any campaign still using the old dma_code field is paused until you switch it to comscore_market_codes. If you run automotive campaigns on Meta, this is a feed and targeting change you need to act on now, not a reporting footnote you can ignore.
What actually changed
Meta replaced dma_code with comscore_market_codes in the vehicle catalog feed. The old field took a single numeric DMA code like 501. The new field takes an array of string market IDs like ["2001"]. That is not just a rename. You are changing the field structure inside the feed and inside every system tied to it.
The move goes from Nielsen DMA, which was built on television viewing data, to Comscore Markets, which cover the same 210 United States markets but also layer in digital and cross-platform behavior. DMA reporting is gone too. You will no longer see the DMA dimension in Ads Manager, the Insights API, or Advanced Analytics. According to Meta, campaigns that still used Nielsen DMA for automotive model ad targeting after June 22, 2026 were paused and require an update to Comscore Markets to resume delivery.
Check whether your campaigns are affected
Start with your live automotive campaigns, then check the catalog feed. If the feed still includes dma_code, delivery is at risk. Warnings inside Catalog Manager are another sign that the feed still needs to be moved over.
These are the campaign types most likely to pause when legacy codes are still in place:
- Automotive model ads: the biggest risk, and the first place to look.
-
Automotive Inventory Ads and Advantage+ Catalog Ads: any setup that still passes
dma_codein the feed can stop delivering. -
Regional lead generation campaigns: at risk if your pixel or Marketing API events still send
dma_code. - OEM and co-op setups: territory rules built on DMA logic need to be remapped to Comscore markets.
While you are auditing, review your vehicle offer feed whether it runs through CSV, XML, or an API. Check Ads Manager targeting on active United States automotive campaigns, since targeting built around named Nielsen DMA regions instead of states, cities, or ZIP codes is affected. Then review pixel events and Marketing API payloads for any leftover dma_code references, and confirm that any third-party feed provider has already moved to the new format.
The DMA to Comscore market ID mapping
Use this mapping when you update feeds, ad sets, and reporting. The point to remember is the format: the old field was a single integer, and the new field is an array of strings.
| Market | Old DMA code | New Comscore ID |
|---|---|---|
| New York | 501 | 2001 |
| Los Angeles | 803 | 2002 |
| Dallas-Fort Worth | 623 | 2005 |
| Atlanta | 524 | 2008 |
| Feed field name | dma_code |
comscore_market_codes |
| Data type | Single integer | Array of strings |
| Reporting dimension | DMA | Comscore market |
How to migrate without losing delivery
Start with your vehicle catalog feed and replace the old dma_code field with comscore_market_codes. For CSV files, rename the column and switch the values from a single integer like 501 to an array of strings like ["2001", "2004"]. For the Marketing API, update your JSON payloads so they include "comscore_market_codes": ["2001", "2004"] alongside your current vehicle fields.
Once the values are updated, run the feed through the Product Feed Debug Tool in Catalog Manager and choose the Vehicles option before you upload again. Check for territory overlap so a store does not lose market coverage by accident.
Next, review your ad set location logic and swap every geo reference over to its Comscore market equivalent. That includes targeting, budget rules, and shared catalogs across dealer inventory ads, regional lead generation, and OEM or co-op setups. Update any dashboards and reporting lookups that still rely on DMA codes, because if you skip that step your geographic performance rows can come back blank after the migration.
Confirm delivery before you scale spend
Verify delivery before you push budgets back up. After relaunch, confirm performance in Ads Manager and in your reports. Watch campaign status, impressions, daily spend pacing, and lead volume, and replace the DMA dimension with the Comscore market dimension so your data keeps populating.
Expect some delivery shifts. Comscore Markets blend linear television and digital media definitions, so market behavior may not line up the same way it did under Nielsen DMA. If delivery still looks unstable, audit feed quality. Missing price, photo, or trim data can hurt performance on its own.
To keep this from happening again, make the check part of your normal workflow. Verify monthly that automated uploads still use comscore_market_codes, review your market mappings against current territory assignments each quarter, and confirm Comscore Markets is selected before every launch.
The Bottom Line
If your Meta automotive campaigns are dark, the most likely cause is a feed still tied to dma_code. Find every DMA reference in your feeds, ad sets, and reporting, swap in the matching Comscore market IDs as an array of strings, validate the feed in Catalog Manager, then relaunch and confirm delivery before scaling spend.
